Cylinder head — assembly (Chevrolet Tahoe 2)

1. Clean the valve spring adjusting shim installation area.

Note: Install the valves in their old locations.


2. Install the valves (228).

3. Install the oil seal (222).

4. Install the valve spring (223).

5. Install the valve spring retainer (224).

6. Using a valve puller, compress the valve spring.

7. Install the valve stem crackers.
  • a) Grease the crackers with a grease to hold the crackers on the stem.
  • b) Make sure that the crackers are correctly positioned in the grooves of the valve stem.
  • c) Release the spring and tap the end of the valve with a plastic hammer.

8. Measure the installed height of the valve spring between the seat and the spring retainer.

If the spring installation height is greater than 46.25 mm, install a thicker adjusting shim (by about 0.5 mm).



9. Install the remaining valves and related parts.

10. Apply sealant to the threads of the coolant temperature sensor.

11. Install the coolant temperature sensor into the left cylinder head, tighten the sensor. Tightening torque 20 Nm.

12. Apply sealant to the threads of the cooling jacket plug.

13. Install the plug into the head of the right half-block, tighten the plug. Tightening torque 20 Nm.

14. Apply locking adhesive to the outer surface of the process plug (216) of the cooling jacket.

15. Install the plug into the cylinder head to a depth of 2.5 mm from the head surface.
