Starting the engine
Move the gear selector lever to the "P" (park) or "N" (neutral) position. The "P" position of the selector lever is preferred. The engine cannot be started in other selector lever positions.

For safety reasons, the starter is locked in all other selector lever positions corresponding to the driving ranges.
Note: On vehicles with automatic transmission, the fuel supply is automatically cut off if the range selector lever is in the "P" or "N" position and the engine starts to idle at high crankshaft speed.
If the engine fails to start due to a severely enriched fuel-air mixture, slowly press the accelerator pedal all the way down and, holding it in this position, turn on the starter to restart the engine.
