Spiral airbag cable (Chevrolet Tahoe 2)

Removal



1. Disable the passive safety system (see section "Disabling and connecting the passive safety system").

2. Remove the steering column covers and remove the steering wheel.

3. Disconnect the wiring (4) from the mount (5).

3. Disconnect the wiring (4) from the mount (5).


4. Disconnect the three fasteners (3) from the wiring.

5. Remove the mount (2) from the steering column.

6. Remove the retaining ring (1) of the spiral wire.

6. Remove the retaining ring (1) of the spiral wire.


7. Remove the spiral wire (2).

8. Remove the washer (3) from the steering wheel shaft.

Installation



Note: Before installing the coil wire, make sure the ignition key is in the "LOCK" position.


1. Install the steering shaft (1) as shown in the figure.

2. Install the washer (1) on the steering shaft.

3. When installing a previously installed spiral wire, it must be adjusted.

Note: The new coil wire does not require adjustment. When installing the new coil wire, do not remove the center pin until the installation is complete.


If there is a viewing window (4) on the front side (5) of the spiral wire and a spring clip (1) on the back side (2) of the spiral wire, then to adjust the spiral wire, do the following:

If there is a viewing window (4) on the front side (5) of the spiral wire and a spring clip (1) on…

  • a) Press the spring lock and turn the spiral wire hub clockwise until it stops.
  • b) Then turn the spiral wire hub counterclockwise until the yellow mark appears in the viewing window and the arrows (3) are aligned.
  • c) Release the spring lock.

If there is a viewing window (3) on the front side (4) of the spiral wire and there is no spring lock (1) on the back side (2) of the spiral wire, then to adjust the spiral wire, do the following:

  • a) Turn the spiral wire hub clockwise until it stops.
  • b) Then turn the spiral wire hub counterclockwise until the yellow mark appears in the viewing window and the arrows (2) are aligned.

If there is no viewing window on the front side (3) of the spiral wire and there is a spring lock (1) on the back side (2) of the spiral wire, then to adjust the spiral wire, do the following:

If there is no viewing window on the front side (3) of the spiral wire and there is a spring lock…

  • a) Press the spring lock and turn the spiral wire hub clockwise until it stops.
  • b) While lightly pressing the spring clip, turn the spiral wire hub counterclockwise 2.5 turns.
  • c) Then release the spring lock.

If there is no viewing window on the front side (2) of the spiral wire and there is no spring clip on the back side (1) of the spiral wire, then to adjust the spiral wire, do the following:

  • a) Turn the spiral wire hub in the direction indicated by the arrow (3) until it stops.
  • b) Turn the spiral wire hub counterclockwise 2.5 turns.

4. Align the spiral wire (2) with the pin located on the cam disc (1).

5. If installing a new coil wire, remove and discard the center pin (1).

6. Install the retaining ring onto the spiral wire. Make sure that the retaining ring (1) is installed in the groove on the steering shaft (2).



7. Further installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.

8. Connect the passive safety system (see section "Disabling and enabling the passive restraint system (SRS)").
