Checking the oil level in the manual transmission
Unscrew the plug of the control hole and make sure that the oil level with the manual transmission warmed up coincides with the lower edge of the control hole. If the oil level is low, add it. If higher, then allow excess oil to drain into a substituted container (see «Changing the oil in the gearbox»).
Attention: the mismatch of the oil level with the recommended one violates the lubrication conditions of the spur gear, which, in fact, is a manual transmission.
Checking the oil level in automatic transmission
To ensure the normal functioning and durability of the automatic transmission, it is necessary to maintain the working fluid of the transmission at a sufficient level. Too high or too low fluid levels can cause a malfunction.
The fluid level must be checked with the engine running.
The automatic transmission selector must be in position P.
The engine and transmission must be warmed up to normal operating temperature.
The vehicle must be parked on a level, level surface.
Normal operating temperature of automatic transmission fluid (70-80°С) will be reached after a run of approximately 20 km.
To check the oil level in the automatic transmission, an oil dipstick located in the engine compartment is used.
Level check
If the fluid is cloudy or has changed color, it must be replaced.
A low fluid level indicates a leak in the automatic transmission.
In this case, contact an authorized Chevrolet dealer for repair as soon as possible.
Keep the transmission fluid free of dirt or foreign matter.
Contaminated fluid can cause serious damage to the automatic transmission and lead to costly repairs.
1. Start the engine.
2. Warm up the engine so that the temperature of the automatic transmission fluid reaches approximately 70°- 80°C
3. Move the switch selector lever from the position «R» into position «1» and again in «R».
Switching the lever to each of the positions, wait a few seconds for the selected gear to turn on completely.
4. Remove the dipstick and wipe it clean.
5. Insert the dipstick into place until it stops.
6. Remove the dipstick again.
7. Make sure the oil on the dipstick is clear.
8. Check fluid level. The fluid level must be between the MIN and MAX marks «hot» zones (see fig. below).
9. If the level is below the MIN·mark «hot» zone, add the amount of liquid necessary to reach the MAX level.
