The Inlet Air Temperature (IAT) sensor is a negative temperature coefficient thermistor.
The sensor resistance is 4,500 ohms at 40°C and 70 ohms at 130°C.
The Engine Control Module (ECM) supplies 5 volts to the IAT sensor through a resistor in the ECM and measures the voltage drop to determine the intake air temperature.
The IAT sensor also has the task of controlling ignition timing at low manifold air temperatures.
A malfunction of the IAT sensor circuit will cause a P0112 or P0113 trouble code to be set.
