The electronic engine management system is equipped with a self-diagnostic function: the electronic control unit constantly analyzes the signals from all sensors and the engine operating parameters. If a malfunction occurs, a diagnostic code is written into the control unit memory, and the signal lamp 22 lights up in the instrument cluster (see figure 1.7). In this case, the control unit switches to the backup program, which allows you to continue driving. Sometimes the engine management system malfunction indicator lamp lights up even before other signs of malfunction begin to appear. In any case, if the lamp does not go out while driving, it is necessary to diagnose the engine management system as soon as possible.
NOTE: If the malfunction that caused the engine management system warning light to come on does not reoccur within three consecutive trips, the warning light will go out automatically.
