Note: A broken mount or poor mount attachment can cause misalignment and failure of certain powertrain components.
Note: When lifting or supporting the engine, do not place the jack under the oil pan, any sheet metal, or the crankshaft pulley. Placing the jack under the pan will cause damage to the oil pickup.
1. Support the power unit, refer to engine mount replacement procedures. Raise the power unit until the weight of the unit is removed from the mounts and apply slight tension to the mount pad rubber.
2. Clean the supports and surrounding surfaces to ensure good visibility when checking the condition of the supports.
3. Check that all support fasteners are present and that the fastener tightening torques are correct.
4. Raise the engine slightly (5-7 mm).
5. Inspect the supports and look for:
- keratinization of the surface and the presence of temperature cracks.
- separation of rubber from the metal support base.
- integrity of the support cushion.
If the vehicle is equipped with hydraulic mounts, check the mounts for fluid loss.
Caution: Before replacing the mount if you suspect loss of shock absorber fluid, make sure the fluid source is from the mount and not from the engine or other location.
