Multiport Fuel Injection (MFI) is an ECM-controlled device that meters a portion of pressurized fuel into each cylinder.
The ECM supplies control pulses to the fuel injector solenoid.
Fuel enters the top of the injector, through the ball or needle valve and a recess in the guide plate at the injector outlet.
The guide plate contains 6 holes that control the flow of fuel, creating a conical spray of fuel towards the inlet valve. The atomized fuel evaporates before entering the combustion chamber.
Removal
Caution: The fuel system is under pressure. To avoid the risk of injury or fire, relieve the fuel system pressure before disconnecting the fuel lines.
1. Release the fuel pressure.
2. Disconnect the "-" battery cable.
3. Remove the fuel injector wire harness connectors.
4. Remove the EGR valve.

5. Remove the fuel supply line.
6. Remove the fuel rail mounting bolts.
Before removal, the fuel manifold should be cleaned with an aerosol according to the instructions provided.
Do not immerse the manifold in liquid cleaning solution. Be careful when removing the manifold to avoid damaging the connectors and injector spray heads.
Prevent contamination from entering open pipes and passages.
The fittings must be covered with caps and the holes must be plugged during maintenance.

7. Remove the fuel manifold with the injectors installed on it.

8. Remove the fuel injector mounting clamps.

9. Remove the fuel injectors by pushing them downwards.
10. Remove the injector sealing rings.
Installation
Note: Injectors are marked by flow capacity. When ordering a fuel injector, make sure you order the part with the same number stamped on it as the old injector.
1. Install new sealing rings on the fuel injectors, after lubricating them with engine oil.
2. Install the fuel injectors into the fuel rail sockets with the injector terminals facing outward.
3. Install the injector mounting clamps onto the injectors and the edge of the fuel rail.
4. Make sure the clamp is installed parallel to the fuel injector harness connector.
5. Install the fuel rail assembly onto the cylinder head and tighten the fuel rail mounting bolts to 25 Nm.
7. Connect the fuel supply hose.
8. Connect the fuel injector wire harness connectors. Rotate each fuel injector to avoid stretching the wire harness.
9. Install the EGR valve if equipped on the vehicle.
10. Connect the "-" battery cable.
11. Perform a leak test of the fuel rail and fuel injectors.
