Attention! 1. The clutch slave cylinder of a dismountable design is installed only on models before 1992. Since 1993, non-dismountable clutch slave cylinders have been installed on the vehicles in question. On models of 1993-1995, the entire clutch hydraulic drive unit is changed - the master and slave cylinders together with the pipelines. Bleeding air from the clutch hydraulic drive on these models is performed only under factory conditions.
2. The clutch slave cylinder repair kit is supplied by the manufacturer as spare parts only upon request. Therefore, it is recommended to replace the clutch slave cylinder as an assembly, without disassembling it.
1. Disconnect the battery from ground.
2. Raise the vehicle and place it on stands.
3. On 1987-1992 models, disconnect the hose from the clutch slave cylinder. Remove the two mounting nuts and remove the clutch slave cylinder.
4. On 1993-1995 models, disconnect the master cylinder from the clutch pedal and the bulkhead. Remove the brackets that hold the pipes along the route, unscrew the nuts and remove the hydraulic drive unit (both cylinders and tubes) from the car.
5. On 1996-1997 models, use a special key to disconnect the tube from the working cylinder through the opening in the bell-shaped crankcase, having disassembled the quick-release connection. Remove the gearbox (see chapter 7A). Loosen the mounting bolts and remove the slave cylinder together with the bearing from the primary shaft of the gearbox. Remove the bearing from the clutch slave cylinder.
6. On 1987-1992 models, install the clutch slave cylinder in place. Make sure the push rod engages the recess in the release fork. Attach the lines to the slave cylinder. Fill the reservoir with fresh DOT 3 brake fluid and bleed the air from the hydraulic system.
7. On 1993-1995 models, lower the hydraulic drive unit with cylinders into the engine compartment and install it in place. Secure the slave cylinder without removing the plastic tape from the rod, the tape breaks when the clutch pedal is first pressed. Make sure the push rod goes into the recess of the release fork and tighten the bolts. Install the master cylinder and tube brackets. There is no need to bleed the hydraulic drive, as it is already filled with fluid at the factory.
8. On 1996 and later models, install the release bearing on the slave cylinder and install this assembly on the transmission. Install the transmission on the vehicle and connect the tubes to the slave cylinder. Bleed the hydraulic drive.
