Warning: Disassembling and repairing the "clock spring" is not permitted and may result in injury or system failure. Twisting the "clock spring" (possible if the steering wheel is installed in the wrong position) may lead to a contact failure or, conversely, to short circuits in switched circuits.
Airbag Wiring Harness Connectors
If the electrical connector of the indicator and diagnostic unit (IDU) is not connected properly, a jumper rod built into the connector will connect the airbag warning lamp wire to the IDU ground wire, and the airbag malfunction indicator will come on. The jumper rod is a backup safety mechanism. Similar rods are provided in all connectors of the passive restraint system, namely:
- driver airbag module connector;
- clock spring connector (at the bottom of the steering column);
- passenger airbag module connector;
- seat belt pretensioner connector.
