The vane (slide) type power steering pump creates the pressure of the working fluid in the system, which is necessary to create an auxiliary force in the steering mechanism. The working fluid is contained in a tank connected to the pump. The pump is equipped with a pressure relief valve, which limits the pressure of the fluid in the pressure pipeline.
The power steering pump on this vehicle is not serviceable. A faulty pump must be replaced.
Removal
1. Remove the mounting clamp and air duct.

2. Remove the pump drive belt from the pulley by loosening the belt tensioner.

3. Disconnect the supply and discharge pipes from the pump.

4. Drain the working fluid into a previously prepared container.
5. Remove the pump assembly by unscrewing the pump mounting bolts.
Installation
Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
When installing, tighten the fastening elements to the following torques:
- pump mounting bolts - 25 Nm;
- pump pulley mounting screw - 25 Nm,
- pump pressure line nipple - 27Nm,
- tension roller screw - 25 Nm;
- generator mounting screws (if they were unscrewed) - 20 Nm;
- air cleaner housing mounting screws - 12 Nm.
Fill the reservoir with fresh hydraulic fluid (DEXRON) and bleed the system (see below).
Check the system for leaks. If there is a leak, eliminate the cause and bleed the system again.
Note: When adding or completely replacing fluid, use only DEXRON II-D or DEXRQN III power steering fluid. Using an inappropriate fluid may cause hose and gasket damage or fluid leakage.
