2. Cover both wings with protective mats.
3. Move the hood to the service position:
- a) Unscrew the bolts (1) of the hood hinge.
- b) Raise the hood vertically.
- c) Install the cover hinge bolts into the holes (2).

4. Remove the air conditioning compressor.
5. Remove the radiator supports.
6. Remove the clamp securing the upper radiator hose to the coolant pump.

7. Remove the upper radiator hose.
8. Remove the clamp securing the lower radiator hose to the coolant pump.

9. Remove the lower radiator hose.
10. Remove the heater hoses.
11. On 5.3L or 6.0L LQ4 series engines, remove the top engine cover bolt.

12. Remove the top cover.
13. On the 6.0L LQ9 series engine, do the following:
a) Unscrew the bolt of the upper engine cover.
- b) Unscrew the bolts securing the left and right fuel manifold covers.
- c) Remove the fuel manifold covers.
- d) Remove the top engine cover.

14. Disconnect the connectors of the fuel vapor canister purge valve (1) and the generator (3).
15. Unscrew the nut (2) securing the wire bundle bracket, disconnect the bundle from the intake manifold. Tightening torque 5 Nm.

16. Remove the clamp securing the radiator ventilation hose to the throttle body.

17. Remove the radiator vent hose from the throttle body.
18. Disconnect the generator cable from the generator:
- a) Slide the cover off the cable mounting pin.
- b) Unscrew the cable fastening nut,
- c) Remove the generator cable.

Tightening torque 9 Nm.
19. Disconnect the ignition coil (2) and fuel injector (3) connectors on the left side.

20. Remove the holder (5) of the wire harness connector.

21. Disconnect the connectors of the ignition coils (4), fuel injectors (3) and throttle control (2).
22. Disconnect the connectors of the absolute air pressure sensor (1) and the knock sensors (2).

23. Loosen the bolt (4) of the grounding cables (2) and (3) on the left side of the cylinder block.

24. Remove the ground cables from the engine.
25. Disconnect the coolant temperature sensor connectors (5).
26. Loosen the bolt securing the grounding cables (or cables that are installed) on the right rear of the block. Tightening torque 16 Nm.
27. Remove the ground cables (2) from the engine.

28. Loosen the ground cable mounting bolt (5) on the left rear side of the unit.
29. Remove the ground cable from the engine.
30. Disconnect the connectors of the oil pressure sensor (1) and the camshaft position sensor (3).
31. Disconnect all wire support clips from the engine.
32. Remove the battery cable connector block from its bracket.

33. Disconnect the fuel vapor canister purge tube from the valve (1) and the canister tube (2).

34. Disconnect the fuel line quick connectors.
35. Raise the car.
36. Disconnect the connectors of the crankshaft position sensor (1), engine oil level sensor (3) and coolant heater (if installed).

37. Loosen the battery cable channel mounting bolt. Tightening torque 12 Nm.

38. Remove the cable channel retaining pin from the oil pan.
39. Gather together and secure all wire bundles away from the engine.
40. Lower the car.
41. Loosen the rear bolt securing the power steering pump to the engine block. Tightening torque 50 Nm.

42. Loosen the generator bracket mounting bolts. Tightening torque 50 Nm.
43. Secure the bracket away from the engine.
44. Remove the brake booster vacuum hose from the intake manifold fitting.

45. If necessary to install the engine lifting hook, remove the ignition coils.
46. Install the engine lifting hooks on the cylinder heads. Tighten the mounting bolts. Tightening torque: bolt M8 25 Nm; bolt M10 50 Nm.

47. Unscrew the bolts securing the left and right engine mount brackets to the engine.

48. Raise the vehicle and place safety stands under the frame.
49. Loosen the engine guard mounting bolts and remove the guard. Tightening torque 20 Nm.

50. Loosen the oil pan guard mounting bolts and remove the guard (if installed). Tightening torque 20 Nm.

51. Drain the engine oil.
52. Remove the starter.
53. Remove the catalytic converter.
54. Loosen the battery cable support clip mounting bolt and remove the clip. Tightening torque 9 Nm.

55. Loosen the bolt securing the automatic transmission torque converter to the drive clutch.

56. Loosen the nut securing the automatic transmission fluid level dipstick tube. Tightening torque 18 Nm.

57. Remove the automatic transmission fluid level dipstick tube.

58. On models with 4L60-E automatic transmission, unscrew the bolt and stud bolt securing the automatic transmission on the right side. Tightening torque 50 Nm.

59. On models with 4L80-E automatic transmission, unscrew the torque converter cover mounting bolts.

60. Unscrew the remaining automatic transmission fasteners. Tightening torque 60-63 Nm.

61. Separate the engine from the automatic transmission. Install the torque converter retainer.
62. Lower the car.
63. Secure the engine lifting hooks to the slings of the lifting mechanism.
64. Place a temporary support under the automatic transmission.
Note: When lifting the engine, do not break the MAP sensor clips. Damage to the clips will result in engine control problems.
65. Remove the engine from the vehicle.
66. Install the engine on the disassembly stand.
When installing:
- Place the engine in the engine compartment and align the engine and automatic transmission.
- Install and tighten the engine mount bolts to the engine block. Tightening torque 65 Nm
- Install and hand tighten the automatic transmission mounting bolts.
- Further installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
Attention
After repair, the engine must be tested. To do this, after installing it on the vehicle, perform the following operations:
- Perform the engine pre-lubrication procedure.
- Perform the procedure of "training" the variable valve timing system (models produced since 2007).
- Turn off the ignition system.
- Turn the engine over manually several times, listen for unusual noises.
- Turn on the ignition system.
- Start the engine and listen for any unusual noises.
- Check the oil pressure.
- Bring the engine to 1000 rpm and warm it up to operating temperature.
- Listen to the noise of the valve mechanism.
- Check the engine for leaks of technical fluids.
- Adjust oil and coolant levels.
