Switching between operating modes
The automatic transmission is carried out by moving the selector to one of the fixed positions:
- P (park): in this position the front wheels are locked;
- R (reverse): mode for reversing the car;
- N (neutral): neutral position of the automatic transmission;
- D4: mode for moving the car forward, with automatic gear shifting;
- 2: In this mode, the automatic transmission can only engage first or second gear. It is used for driving downhill or when engine braking is needed;
- 1: In this mode, the car will only move in first gear. It is used for maximum engine braking.
: switching is performed with the brake pedal depressed and the lock button pressed;
: switching is performed when the lock button is pressed;
: switching is free.

The vehicle is equipped with a brake pedal-linked gearshift lock (BTSI). If the selector cannot be moved from position P with the ignition on and the brake pedal depressed, switch off the ignition, remove the key and release the brake pedal. Press the brake pedal and, while holding it, use a screwdriver to remove the cover from the automatic transmission selector release mechanism. Insert the key into the mechanism slot and set the preselector to position N. Contact a service station to have the fault rectified.
Do not press the accelerator pedal when switching from position to mode R, D4, 2, 1, this may damage the automatic transmission. Also, do not engage mode R until the car has come to a complete stop.

To disable gear lock, press the button on the automatic transmission panel again.
If a malfunction of the automatic transmission is detected, the MIL indicator light on the instrument panel lights up.
