1. Disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery.
2. Place the vehicle on secure supports and remove the right front wheel.

3. Remove the air filter (see "Removal and installation the air filter and air duct").

4. Remove the mudguard liner and the right engine splash guard (see "Removal and installation mudguards and engine crankcase protection").

5. Remove the accessory drive belts (see "Replacement of auxiliary drive belts").

6. Unscrew the nut securing the power cable tip and disconnect the cable from the generator terminal.

7. Press the retainer of the voltage regulator wiring harness connector and disconnect the connector from the regulator.

8. Unscrew the two bolts securing the generator to the bracket on the engine and remove the generator, lowering it down under the car.
9. Install the generator in the reverse order of removal.
WARNING: Before installing the alternator, push the threaded bushings into the holes in the rear alternator feet a few millimetres. The bushings are installed in the holes in the feet with interference, so use a drift with a mandrel of the appropriate diameter.
10. Rotate the crankshaft three full revolutions and make sure that the belt is correctly positioned on the pulleys.
