Warning: Never check for charging by disconnecting the "-" terminal from the battery while the engine is running. This may cause damage to the vehicle's electronic units.
To test the efficiency of the generator, you can simulate the maximum load mode by turning on the maximum number of powerful consumers, for example:
- high beam headlights;
- electric fan of heating system;
- windshield wipers;
- heated rear window.
When the engine is rotating at medium speed (about 2500 rpm) the voltage at the battery terminals should be within 13.9-14.2 V.
In the maximum generator power mode, the voltage drop between the generator body and the "-" terminal should not exceed 0.5 V. If the voltage drop exceeds the specified value, check the reliability of the connections in the ground circuit.
Inspect, clean, tighten and retest all ground connections.
Checking the charging control system
During normal operation, the generator indicator should light when the ignition is turned on and should go out immediately after the engine starts.
To check, disconnect the wiring harness from the generator and turn on the ignition. When the "L" terminal is shorted to ground, the indicator glows to indicate that the charging control circuit is working properly.
